Hi. I have one of those great big and fun cattle call auditions coming up that I've heard so many "good" (and scary!) things about. Anwyhow, it's my first one and I'd really like to avoid using "overdone" songs. Now, I'd like to do "I'm calm" from A Funny Thing Happened...., which might be too much but it's a guy's song and I'm a girl, which would be a lil different. soo, what do you think?
Thanks!

i would say DEFINITELY don't do a song that's not within your gender. you don't want to do a song that will set you apart negatively, and i can guarantee that those watching will think "why is that girl doing a guy's song?" instead of "wow, what a great voice!"

what show are you auditioning for...or is it something like NETC where it's not ONE particular show?

It is NETC.
And it seems like every song I pick or have is either impossible to find in print (Eddie and Mae, The Wild Party) or is too overdone(Much More, ha)!
I have a fairly extensive range, and I wanted to do something upbeat with a comical character. Buuut, I may just end up doing "shy" from once upon a mattress. But I'm definitely still open, any suggestions?
Thank you!

Look at Repent from On the Twentieth Century. Hilarious song, great for comedic acting. (But dont listen to the cd if you can help it. An old lady sings it, and it sounds like she's dying.)

dramatothemax --

though i don't know the song at all, i think that if an old lady is singing it, it probably isn't age-appropriate for beccabee.

beccabee--
also, isn't NETC soon? i would suggest going with a song you know (even if its' a little overdone) rather than learning a new one. you are basically applying for jobs, after all!!

True, but the show is hardly known. It's a funny piece and I dont think they'd mind. I'm not exactly familair with the role, but it's a very general piece. You'd never know that the character is 1000 years old.

But if the auditions are soon, then I'd agree with Sporti. It may be a little overdone, but if you can sing the hell out of it, thats all that matters!
