Has to be that white collar crime expert who has done time herself and looks like Dana Carvey's CHURCH LADY, popping up from NBC to CNN to proudly show us pix of her own prison-era bruises and contusions. Her big contribution to this story is to graphically spell out the horrors awaiting La Stewart once "...she walks through that gate, and it clangs shut" behind her. In her flat monotone, she waxes purple about how she'll be hated, resented, and thus hit on ad nauseum. Her 15 minutes ended for me during her TODAY gig. She had Matt Lauer in a lather. He and others take palpable delight in egging this gal on until she ominously implies that poor Martha may end up a piece of pulp. In an era defined by our collective fetish for lurid details of suffering, this "opinion" -- a total projection -- is a new benchmark.

please, this is a federal case, right? martha will end up doing her time at allenwood where the boys like michael milkin and the rest of the junk bonders from the 80's ended up. it's more like a freakin' summer camp. now i will grant you that losing your freedom is a terrible thing, but the idea that she's going to be rubbing shoulders with hardened cons is absurd. she'll face two roll calls a day, an honor system that lest you go to town on your own, private rooms, private phone rooms, 9a-9p visiting hours 7 days a week and no mickey mouse talking through the glass, guest access to the kitchen (so visitors can bring and cook their own meals), a day care center, that's the "prison" that she'll end up at, mark my words.

Yeah, I caught her act, too. Really annoying. The behind-the-scenes phenomenon that tends to accompany news 'events' nowadays dilutes the impact of the story for me. The distinction between what is fact and what is conjecture gets blurred so quickly. It becomes all about the ratings.
