I was totally surprised by that part in the Into the Woods video. Though in retrospect, I shouldn't have been. Even when using fairy tales as material, Sondheim shows are never really kiddie stuff.
That was in the original Cinderella story.

I know. But fairy tales have all been Disneyfied since then and made into children's stories. Into the Woods is seen as Sondheim's most child-friendly show because of its "fractured fairy tale" content, but I was saying that it isn't, really. He doesn't make shows for children.

"The slippers in The Wiz were silver. Just like the ones in the original book."
Yep, thought so. Except when we did The Wiz we didnt like silver slippers so we made ruby ones anyway and called them "red" throughout the show. "The RED SLIPPERS of the Wicked Witch of the East?!? *GASP!*" hehe, i miss that show.

LOL technically...yes. But the ruby ones we made were so pretty!! :)
If you want another giggle...our cast only consisted of one African American person, who played the Wizard. We got some strange looks saying we were doing The Wiz, needless to say..it was great though!!

My middle school, which had one black kid (who wasn't in my grade) did The Wiz for the eighth grade musical. Ah, how fun.

but really, why does "the wiz" need black people?!? or any show at all for that matter. maybe we should get back to the good old days where we just had white actors paint their faces black!

agh, I really don't want to get into a race issue, not at all! I'm just saying since it was a mainly black show/movie, it was funny (to people who knew us) for this basically white cast to do it. Just a little "haha, thats funny"...not saying it couldn't or shouldn't be done with any race of people. Thats all! :)

They don't look like that anymore They're faded and old looking (obviously)
I have heard that before.
I remember when I was little I went to the museum and my mom took a picture of me with them, but the photo has been long lost.
I prefer to mantain my dillusion until I can handle the truth.

ohsowicked - i wasn't trying to get into a race issue either! just teasing! I went to a high school where we had about 5 black people so I can just see what that would be like. I myself have always wished I was black so I would have loved it!
