so i was reading http://iraqthemodel.blogspot.com (interesting blog from iraq) and he sounds pretty scared about things in the region. citing the fact that sadr and ahmedinejad are both believers in the "hidden imam" theory, he makes the case that things are gonna get a lot worse before they get better.

a weird note is the fact that some places claim that the date by which iran has decided to respond to the un on the nuclear issue (august 22, 2006) is allegedly the date that the hidden imam (still alive somewhere prasie be to allah) will rise and lead the faithful in a climactic battle over the infidels. it's also the anniversary of saladin's conquering of jerusalem.

this stuff freaking anybody else out? if not what is creeping you out in the world right now? (3...2...1...george bush!)

That is creepy... one thing that I always note is that when something is 'expected,' it never happens. It's always in hindsight that we figure those things.

That hatred has been going on since Israel's inception & the arab vs arab for centuries. What is scary is the fundamentalists & the fact that we have allowed ourselves to have a lot of our oil come from there.

If we had 1/2 of our power come from nuclear like the French, I would feel much better & gas would be a hell of a lot cheaper

It feels strange to be planning my day, just moving along... and then hear about all the stuff going on in the middle east. It's kind'a surreal.

What DD worries about:
Why are people still becoming HIV+ in this day and age?
Why do some people purposefully become HIV+?
Where are regular folks like me gonna live when we are priced out of urban housing?
How do we stop the gentrification of America?
How do we get Tom Cruise to disappear? (and take Britney Spears with him)
How do keep the weight off without starving myself?

i fear you're right, dg. ahmedinejad's fanatical enough i think to see this as his destiny. the sacrifices of thousands or even millions would be worth it if by doing so they can bring about the rise of the new greater caliphate behind the hidden imam. remember that crazy ass letter he wrote to bush? it was released on the anniversary of the date that muhammed called leaders of the area to submit to islam.

no, zone, any big ass booms will take place over there. however, if they're big enough, coverage might pre-empt some shows depenmding on the network. i have it on good authority that under no circumstances will any of this affect coverage of major league baseball.
