greetings friends -
i have a quick little blurb/question...
i'm 25, college graduate (english lit) and currently doing the whole corporate thing, but i have always wanted to pursue acting and was wondering about two things:
1) is 25 too old to start in the business? i've been involved in aspects forever - i've danced since the age of 5, performed in color guard/drum corps for 10 years (not theatre, but certainly very performance/dance oriented), study voice privately and have been involved in community theatre, but now i'm just not sure where to go from here, and i've never done anything on any type of professional level.
2) are there any good part-time acting programs or schools in ny that offer evening classes? i've searched the internet countless times and come across so much stuff, but i'm just curious as to whether or not any of you have had any great experiences with any of them.
any help, opinions or experiences you might want to share would be fabulous! thanks! :)

1. No, it's never too late. Depending on some people's look, they don't make it until they are further along in life. Definately take the acting classes to bring all of your previous lessons together.
2. purchase a backstage for 2.99 at your local magazine stand if you live in N.Y. if not, bookstore chains carry it too. they have many listings for acting classes in there. I don't have any opinions on any personally, though.
3. good luck.

Backstage is a good idea.
There are also many private acting teachers in NYC.
Here is the site of just one of them:

For part-time acting class, I would suggest HB Studios. They have all different types of classes and different times. They allow you to sit in on a class to audit a teacher and I would suggest you do that. Some of their teachers are great, some good and some are teaching just because Uta Hagen felt sorry for them.

I'd be very careful picking an HB class. When I direct, I can usually spot an HB trained actor at an audition within 30 seconds without even looking at the resume. There is just something factory like about their training. Look into T. Schreiber - I've seen some wonderful work from them, and I've worked with several of their actors and had terrific results. Checking out Backstage is also a wonderful idea, and just look at it this way: you are auditioning THEM the same way they are auditioning you.
And no, it isn't too late. Pippin is absolutely correct.
