This may be a stupid question, but I was wondering...
If someone (ex: a director) gets 4% of the gross for a show on Broadway, what happens when the show starts touring or has productions in other cities? I mean does the director get 4% of those productions as well?

Posted: 1/8/04 at 9:34amit all depends on the deal that they work out for themselves, i think. part of any broadway contract is right of first refusal, generally. which means that they get offered first crack at any susequent productions being mounted under the aegis of the original. but, as far as i know, each separate production would require a new contract. of course directors and authors and such might have it written in that even if they don't take part, that unless a major re-working is done of the production for the new productions that they still get a cut albeit a lesser amount. but if they do an entirte re-envisioning of the show for the tour, a la seussical, then the original creative team can kiss their cash buh-bye.
