resume/cover letter question

I am interviewing for a new position in sales at the hotel where I work. I was asked to come to the interview with a resume, should my cover letter be as formal as when I originally applied? It feels strange because we know each other, it isn't some nameless person in HR reading it.

Any suggestions?

If you are meeting the person face to face a cover letter is not necessary.
