I am having a really hard time finding my second scene for the Irene Ryan competition in january and was wondering if anyone here(with all your vast knowledge) maybe had some suggestions. I am a looking for male/female comedic scene that is not too contemporary because my other two pieces are very contemporary. Any suggestions you could give would be much appreciated. thanks.

We just finished "as you like it" and I know there are so awesome scenes between rosalind and orlando, that is if you're interested in shakespeare the phebe silvius scenes are pretty great too. Id also look into the play "rumors" by neil simon even though thats probably too contemporary.

Even thought it is definitely in the classical category, Sheridan's The Rival's is an excellent example of Comedy of Manners. Very tongue in cheek, satirical, witty. Funny if you don't play it for laughs because of the absurdity of the situations from a modern viewpoint. Any scene with Mrs. Malaprop is funny, perhaps her scene with Sir Anthony would be good to look at . . . although be warned about doing a certain 'style' if not well accustomed to it . . . but it is a suggestion nonetheless! Good Luck!
