What are some songs from composer that should usually be avoided at auditions (Sondheim, JRB...) that are actually good audition songs? I'm talking about possible problems with the pianist, not style-wise. I only ask because usually these composers suit my voice best. No specific audition in mind, just wondering...

I learned my lesson after singing Unworthy of Your Love from Assassins at an auditon. The pianist messed up in the middle of it and then played off key for the rest. I don't blame him, I mean it's Sondheim. But it was really hard to finish

Still Hurting and Summer in Ohio are great songs that I would avoid. Also, for guys, Giants in the Sky is an amazing song, but is Sondheim so I would probably stay away from.

None? haha.... I guess That'll Show Him from Forum isn't bad, and Green Finch isn't too difficult for an accompanist to play.

I use Not a Day Goes By from Merrily We Roll Along because it really shows off my range, but its not crazy hard to play.

Sorry I must have missed that part. re: songs from composers that are usually avoided I'm not sure which are good.

it's really hard to find music for a guy to sing that a) shows off his range, b) sounds amazingly fantastic, c) be easy to play, and d) not over-cooked. it's soo annoying!

DAMN AUDITIONS!!!

Don't do greenfinch unless your classical technique is flawless!

My advice would be to continue avoiding those composers. There is a plethora of material out there. ANd think of it this way...it's better to do a song that is maybe easier but that the pianist will be able to play, so your audition will go flawlessly rather than struggling with the pianist with a harder piece. It's really just better to not use those composers.
