re: soprano audition song

Well, what do you need it for? :)

Off the top of my head with no other info, I'd say to look at 'The Light In The Piazza', but that's provisional. If you need it for an audition, then this isn't a good show. It's a biotch for accompanists, plus I'm sure it must be getting towards massively overdone. If you need it for learning purposes or there'll be no accompanist involved, then why the heck not.

The more info we get in a request post, the more suitable suggestions we can come up with. :)

Any Miss Dorothy song from Thoroughly Modern Millie, Think Of Me from Phantom, or Green Finch and Linnett Bird from Sweeney Todd.

If you WANT to show off your opera, take a look at "Two Little Words" from Steel Pier.

Hope this helps! =)

I'm in the same boat you are.

I need some audition songs for a B.F.A. program as well and I don't even know where to start because I don't know what they are looking for or wanting.

"Any Miss Dorothy song from Thoroughly Modern Millie, Think Of Me from Phantom, or Green Finch and Linnett Bird from Sweeney Todd."

All overdone as is Light in the Piazza. My book included 30 odd pages of recommended MT songs for all voice types and situations. You can buy it on www.amazon.co.uk (So you want to tread the boards).

Yeah, overdone, but if they sound good they sound good.

"Ribbons Down My Back" from Hello, Dolly.

Listen to the cast recording and you'll hear what a soprano song it is. The singer is now veteran character actress Eileen Brennan who was then a young leading lady type.

The movie version is too much young character actressy.
