Spanking children, if done properly and used sparingly, can be a very effective and safe way to discipline children. It certainly worked for me. I knew right away that if I did something that deserved a spanking (which was rare), I would never do it again.

I'm opposed to spanking. Huge surprise, I know. I don't understand the concept of inflicting pain in order to teach a lesson. And a spanking, as punishment, tends to be delivered in anger, suffusing the event with undertones of violence. You can call it discipline, if you want to, but spanking a child is still an act of physical agression by someone dominent against someone who is not.

I got time-outs. No spanking for me. I think that taking away TV privileges and whatnot is more effective than spanking. Spanking is a cowardly way to punish a child.

I do not agree with spanking. As previously mentioned it implies violent undertones. The hot sauce idea is becoming more popular, and many kids say it is a good form of punnishment.
