I've started my college search and I make it a point to check the school's theatre program to see if it has stage managing. Are there any smaller schools with a SM program that have a good name?
How much SM experience is enough, too? I've done as many shows as I can with just being on a crew... I was the ASM of a smaller school production this year and I really want to SM The Laramie Project next year. Would that be enough experience?
Thanks in advance!

I don't know if there are many stage managing programs...I think your best bet would be to go into a theatre tech program, which I know DO exist.
NC School of the Arts has a Design and Production program and you can choose to focus on stage management. PM me for more info.

I am a stage management major at Carnegie Mellon, and it is a wonderfull program. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions at all about it (i can give you my email address).
Susquehanna University in the tiny town of Selinsgrove PA has a really good theatre program...really intense, tiny, and almost sort of convervatory like. Since the program is so small, you could ASM a show as early as freshman year and SM as early as sophomore year. (We're talking main-stage productions here.) While they don't have a specific stage management degree, there is technical theatre but you can take specific classes geared towards stage management and get LOTS of hands-on experience. PM me if you want more details. :)
