re: sun to explode in the future???

Sounds like someone's been spending time in Vancouver and downing vodka with another one of my favorite BWWers...

Lots of vodka, yes, but to call her sexy... what other substances are you dabbling in, Ellie dearest?

Rath, tell Brenda I sympathize.

re: sun to explode in the future???

Can't, insomniak. She ran out of the room sobbing.

re: sun to explode in the future???

This is the first I've heard of this an it terrifies me. I had a bad experience in a Nova when I was a kid. Can a Gremlin explode too? If it did, it would only effect NYC, wouldn't it?What about an AMC Matador? I hear that if a volcanoe erupts in Mexico on Feast Day Of Maria De Gualaupe at precisley 12:00 noon and a Matador is passing by going East at teh same moment, the effect would devestate the world.

Etoile, you shouldn't drink V8, it's loaded with sodium and calories.

re: sun to explode in the future???

You know what else is frightening? These reports I keep hearing about cow flatulence craeting a gas that is destroying our atmosphere and could cause major changes in the environment. Is there any place on Earth that I could move to where there are no cows?

omg, orion, these are terrifying new revelations that you bring to the table!! i was ok with the silly bobblehead and green gobbler jokes and the mournful cry of the humor challenged and the soon to be disappointed, but these new possibilities have me ready to curl up into the fetal position and contribute to the flatulence problem.

re: sun to explode in the future???

It's called a nova and it won't happen for billions of years. I learned this in earth science when I was in 6th grade. When stars die they explode and it's called a nova.

Actually, our Sun isn't massive enough to go nova. Only high-mass stars develop a hot enough core for iron fusion -- there is no step beyond iron fusion, so that's why the star explodes.

Instead, our Sun (a mid-size star) will most likely turn into a white dwarf. Eventually, all the Sun's hydrogen will be fused into helium, but it won't go much beyond that, and a white dwarf will be the result.

This is what I learnt in Astronomy 201: Stars And Galaxies. re: sun to explode in the future???

re: sun to explode in the future???

Well as long as we are discussing the end of human life anyone else heard about how atoms are slowly breaking down so in a time far, far from now the universe is just going to slowly unravel until everything is gone? Fun huh?! Nothingness! Oooh of course then we could get into quantum mechanics where something doesn't exist if it is not observed. Caraziness you say! Well science seems to be agreeing with it! A lot of our technology is based on the theory. If you wanna get into the freaky and depressing I can take you there! Darn phions!!!! I'm still upset that my quantum mechanics thread didn't get any replies too!

your uncle wasn't the only one with a nova. i had a super nova (yes, it was a v-re: sun to explode in the future??? and it didn't explode either. it did, however, loose power until it became a white dwarf.

anyway, we don't have to worry about the death of the sun, because global warming is going to cause flooding that's going to wipe out life on the planet long before then.

re: sun to explode in the future???

well this is just beyond me now. not only do i have to fear the sun exploding, a rogue nova running wild on the sidewalks mowing down innocent (hah that's a laugh, they probably voted for bush and deserve to be slaughtered) civilians, cows getting together and creating a f.a.e. (fuel air explosive) capable of flattening an entire country if ignited or completely detroying life on this planet my enhancing the greenhouse effect if left alone, vulcans erupting and using their superior intellect and nerve pinches to take over the world, green gobblers and bobbleheads inciting riots in the streets with their warbling, matadors leaving the bulls to wave their flags at late model amc's, but now, on top of all of that you tell me that we have to deal with a wave atack of racist wite supremecist little people ready to whack at our knees with flaming crosses white spouting language that would make archie bunker blanch???

well all i can say is thank god i have you people here around me and that i will go out jacked into my imac, crisped at the keyboard and not engaged in some vile fluid discharge activity!! i love you folks!! we're the best famulie in duh werldd!!

um, the sun is a Nova.

A Nova is an exploding star.

Therefeore the sun has already exploded, and we are basking in it as we type.
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.
