I love THE CLEAN HOUSE on the Style Network.
I don't think I ever saw a room I liked that Hilde was a part of.
I just saw the end of a show that absolutely proves my point. The Chicago decorater, Brice Cooper, took a pale, unadorned bedroom and rather than inject a bit more design, turned it into a garish and cheesily appointed "burnt pumpkin" nightmare. Who lives in a bedroom painted "burnt pumpkin?" It was whorehouse orange, and then accessorized with brown and orange drapes. Ugh. Simply hideous, especially the crepe orange bedspread that truly looked like a coverlet from a Mexican bordello.
And by the way -- for the 3rd time in two weeks, I've seen a pushy young white designer turn a simple, understated home of African Americans into loud, screaming digs. Verne did the same dreadful job on a black family preparing for a wedding They had creme and beige living room with elegant pale furnishings and he papered the walls with horizontal stripes and hug gold, star-bursh mirrors. I'm sorry, but what is this? Some attempt to give African Americans a "color" pizzaz that supposedly lack? What's with the force-feeding of ORANGE! Is it supposed to a homage to "African" roots? The term "People of Color" seems to be taken literally. In both of these cases, I had a feeling the old looks were brought back within days of these "infusion of bright color!" Sorry, but attention but be paid.
They did a follow-up on the houses that Trading Spaces did. Hilde's cardboard nightmare cost the couple over $10,000 to restore their walls. Simply amazing. I am sure they rued their decision to go on the show for their 15 minutes of fame!
