was in Tower over the weekend checking out the soundtracks and right next to them were all the "theatre" related DVDs. included was a DVD of "Puppetry of the Penis" - how odd i thought, that's kind of like porn, isnt it? sort of?
Well, I guess it is how you look at it . . . but it is/was a theatre piece.

"Apparently you've never actually seen porn"
Or a penis.
no i dont mean that. i know it was a theatre piece, and i know it's not sexual like porn, but it was just odd to see it stuck in between "Passion" and "Pirates of Penzance", that's all.

There's art.
And then there's porn.
Sometimes people confuse the two.
oh but i have namo; michael lucas and tom chase top my list.

Pornography is meant to tantilize. Did it excite you?

It's a THEATRE piece, c&a. Why is it so hard for you to grasp that it should be placed among the theatre DVDs?
actually zoneface, seeing the "Hamburger" on the back of the box i got a little woozy and sick to my stomach, not tantilized at all.

Haha, I can tell you something I'd find considerably A LOT weirder that happened at Tower Records, but I won't get started on that
Did the show have a restricted age limit? Did you have to be a certain age to get in? Because that would be the only reason I could see it being placed somewhere other than the "regular" section...or that it wouldn't be sold to children. Although, I have to admit that I'd probably be taken aback by seeing it between the films you've mentioned....maybe it should have been closer to "Pippin"...LOL
Zoneface- I love 'shape of things'
The oddest thing is that it was between Passion and Pirates of Penzance, which means it was misfiled. I hate that. Alphabetizing is not difficult. You don't even need to be able to spell. The letters are all right there. People are lazy and have no respect for others.

I saw the show in London long before it started twisting itself in NYC (I had to throw that in).
We should not be suprised that this DVD was not exactly in alphabetical order.
Puppetry has nothing to do with letters but all to do with length.
Puppetry of the Penis began as an entertainment in the back bar of a pub in inner suburban Melbourne and should never have found its way onto any stage. And now there is a DVD? Good God!
oh my god mister matt! i read your post and laughed out loud. i love it!

Actually, I had comps to see it. And I went in expecting less than nothing. But ultimately what I saw was a roomful of people having to deal with male nudity in social space. This is not something that's particularly commonplace in the Puritanical '00s.
There were visual and verbal puns, clever as well as lame jokes. And there were two naked men. And there was an audience full of people confronted by issues of body image, "appropriate" or "inappropriate behavior," as well as an appreciation of and a focus on the human penis, which is very rarely seen in this culture, which is odd, given how much this culture is driven by the thing.
In short, I think there's a lot more going on with this show than I thought there was when I walked through the door to see it.
