the report on priestly abuse used to gay bash

I was startled (though I shouldn't have been) to hear Pat Buchannan and some other Foxian pundit talking about the just-released report on sexual abuse among priests. To what does Pat attribute this 40 year old crisis, affecting 10 thousand plus kids? The easy access to the Priesthood by "homosexuals." "The church has to take a stand on letting homosexuals into their ranks..." The discussion continued (on the heels of a discourse on the evils of gay marriage), with no one pointing out that all pedophiles -- men and women who sexualize children and act on such feelings as a v. specific type of power fantasy -- are disturbed adults, sexual preference ultimately irrelevant. But there was no distinction drawn between pedophilia and "homosexuality," as though one easily leads to or is part of the other.

The spin on this Church damning report is turning out to be: let queers into our sacred institution(s), and danger to your children follows. This is not a new (specious and dangerous) argument, but I fear the timing is particularly unfortunate; look for these two hot-button issues to be linked.

well, ya can always depend on pat for a well reasoned and tactful response to a crisis can't ya? wow, if only we can get him to speak at the 2004 gop national convention we could have nice repeat of 1992. is anyone surprised at this though? i mean it's pat buchanan. that's like getting surprised at louis farrakhan for making an anti-semitic speech or teddy kennedy showing up for a speech sober...oh wait that is a surprise.

while it's lamentable that buchanan is still given airtime to voice his hateful screeds, i would hope that most people could by this point see that what matters most to pat buchanan is pat buchanan.
