a death threat is a threat and implies intent. as in party a telling party b, "i'm going to kill you" or "i have devised an efficient means by which to end your life and plan to get started on implementing that later this afternoon after i have some pike place roast and an apple scone. mmmm, apple scone."
telling someone "go die" is more a suggestion that they might want to consider sparing the world their inanity.
