i was wondering if anyone could help me...

my dream, probably like everyone else here, is to be on broadway. i was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on training.

as of right now.. i am an advanced dancer in a local studio.. i have been singing my whole life and have a vocal coach.. and ive done three musicals where i was in the chorus.. and right now im barely doing my first lead and its in a play.

i just feel like there is so much more i could do. i started all the dancing and acting and hardcore singing when i turned 14, so i belive i am starting a bit late and was just wondering if anyone could give some advice. i plan to audition for colleges once i grad. which is in a year and a half.
any pointers, tips, advice, yadada... would be greately appreciated.

if you have a list of colleges you're looking at, check out their audition requirements and start trying to gather ideas about what you might want to use for your pieces. i know it seems early, but if you start preparing now, we won't see a thread from you in a year that says "I HAVE AN AUDITION NEXT WEEK AND I DON'T HAVE A MONOLOGUE, WHAT DO I DO?!?!?" starting looking for material now gives you lots and lots of time and you won't have to be frantic about it.

keep up with your dance/acting/voice. also, keep your grades up. though some MT schools aren't too hard to get into grade-wise, having a good GPA and extracurriculars can't never hurt, even if you're applying to a conservatory.

also, check out college confidential's MT forum. it's the best resource out there.

You know what's funny...Maggie has like the best advice on everything...lol. But yea, I agree, start working on stuff now. I have a huge HUGE music folder that I put all my sheet music in. I have it split into sections: Broadway, Opera, Italian, German, French, Religious, Contemparary, Movie/Film, etc. It really helps me to stay organized and if I have an audition coming up I look through my HUG-E-MUNGUS folder and find something. I also keep all my audition pieces, and monologues in there. :)

aww thanks chase :)

you offer some good advice yourself -- that's exactly what i do. even when i have the song in a collection or a "selections from" book, i photocopy it and put it into my binder, that way it's easy to find everything on a moment's notice. you have no idea how helpful it is to have everything organized when someone says "can you sing a 45 minute program? you know, some jazz, some classical, some broadway -- just keep it fun!" i can just pull one or two out of each section and i'm ready to go!!
