Posted: 12/18/04 at 1:46pmI was five when my father was telling me to make sure that my younger brother didn't see what we were buying as it was going to be a gift from Santa. Then he had the nerve to wink at me. But I think he realized his error when I burst into tears.
Though it may not be anyone's birthday,
And though it's far from the first of the year,

When my mother decided to tell me Santa wasn't real, at the same time she told me the story of Sinterklaas, or Saint Nicholas, and told me the story was, at least in some ways, true.
I was devastated, but glad that it wasn't all lies.
