All tops wore tight jeans, boots and plaid shirts. All bottoms wore tight jeans, crayons (shoes with different colored gel bottoms) and really skinny ties.
Really baggy pants with tons of pleats, pockets and multiple zippers were big too. Sort of like a space age version of cargo pants but with tapered legs. (still available at International Male, as Foster says)

I was an out-of-step, in-denial theatre nerd in the '80s. My attire was as timeless and confused then as it would be today.
It has never gone out of style, because it has never been IN style.

Along with everything previously mentioned, I remember the boys going through a "preppy" trend: Pastel Izod shirts with the collars turned up, burgundy red topsiders with leather laces, etc.

What I loved about the 80's was that I could mix and match all of them and get away with it -- preppy by day, disco/flashdance by night -- leather slut on the weekends. Good times.

When I thought of posting what my favorite outfit was when I went 'out', I thought, "Nah - no one would believe it." But, aspects of every bit of it has been mentioned in the thread already!
A neon-bright, canary-yellow, double-breasted shirt - open at the skinny collar. A woven-metallic, red, skinny tie hangly loosely (the effect was like the ruby slippers!) Very tight, white painter's pants. And bright red 'Crayons' with yellow gel soles.
For some reason I'm thinking of the 'are you gay enough?' thread. I guess the answer is, was, and ever shall be a resounding YES!
