it got me wondering, can you think of songs that espouse viewpoints diametrically opposed to your own or which have been recorded by artists whose intent for the song is at odds with your politics which you love anyway?

papa, I grew up with the Peter, Paul and Mary version of that song. We LOVED it.
To your question, though, some of the most glorious music in the world is about God and Jesus and all that, can't say the text does much for me, but the music is incredible.
i have so many. disagreeing with the topic or lyrics is a silly reason not to like a song. generally. sure there are exceptions.

Something most of the people who know me have a hard time wrapping their heads around is my abolute LOVE of Black Gospel.
As Sueleen already mentioned, the lyrics and intended message don't really resonate with me, but if I hear a choir 'preaching,' I literally can't sit still. At all.
Is there anybody else who can't see the title of this song without thinking, "Oklahoma!"?
