because i have a friend in samuel colt.
happiness is a warm gun
Do you have a friend in Colt Studios?
You know, I'm very torn about the gun thing--I am from a family of hunters and I also think it's important for citizens to have weapons so that when the corporate world decides to take over, we can (to a degree) fight back.
I do think that Barack's comments and the reaction to them seem like they're on different tracks.
I think Barack meant that when people feel disenfranchised, they tend to subconciously rely on constants in their lives--the comfort and community of church, with clearly defined roles and rules.
I don't know that people cling to guns so much, but having a gun makes people feel secure (myself included) so maybe that was his idea.
In short, I think that the Constitution MUST be changed to enact any federal gun laws. I thnk it's only fair that if we interpret the 1st Amendment with such broad strokes, we must treat the 2nd the same way.
Hmmmm - I own a hand gun - and since I bought it because of a death threat I received, it did not particularly make me happy.
I used to keep one in the house, a 357...serious gun. I was just afraid to have it in NYC--nobody wants to break in my house anyway--they'd have to carry it down the stairs and over the gate...
I know that hunters are responsible gun owners for the most part, but alot of guys hunt and drink...which my dad DOES NOT do--he drinks but only after the hunting day is done.
That being said, a kid I went to school with accidentally shot himself at my friend Rance's house and his dad was one of those responsible gun owners too.
"What a friend we have in Jeebus.."
mr. matt, not anymore.
ywiw, i told you i was kidding. geez.
lil, .357 is a nice number. and makes a nice hole. specially with some 158 grain hydra-shok jhps.
diva, you make the baby jeebus drool.
My step dad was not one of those responsible gun owners. He fired his 357 in hour house and shot a hole in the floor. While he was drinking and showing it off for a friend.
I think with any kind of adult privilege, if you break the rules, you shouldn't have the privilege anymore.
Take driving, for example. I know the right to drive isn't in the constitution, but if you speed or DUI, you're going to have your license taken away.
I think it should be the same with pistols and rifles. I don't like the word gun.
"I think with any kind of adult privilege, if you break the rules, you shouldn't have the privilege anymore."
Then stop posting.
You wanna be the kettle? Or the pot?
a 357 makes nothing BUT a hole--you don't even have to aim and you can kill him/her/it.
I almost shot the guy who reads the meters once--I hear this rustling and crunching under my window at 4 am-ish and this was in a bad hood...thank god he moved on to the next house.
All I could think was that this guy was going to crawl into my window and I'd have to splatter his brains all over the walls, then I'll have to get new clothes, new sheets, all my clothes would have gore on them...too much mishegoss!
So I go outside and then I see his truck--reading meters at 4am in the hood--he deserves to get shot.
I am privileged.

Glad to see the ol' av back, SOMMS...I'd ride him like Trigger.
If privileged means bitter and old, sure, you're definitely privileged.
ivan the wonderful, lil.
oh and somms, moist. muy moist.
Ivan the Wonderful? guess I missed his reign.
lil - same gun - my dad brought it over after the threat (and I don't count the one from you papa).
I am torn on gun ownership as well. I am in favor of registration and licensing requirements, and approve of a waiting period. I do not approve of automatic weapons, but am OK with those who choose to shoot for sport, or those who have a registered gun at home (and should have a license).
Real hunters don't carry automatic weapons.
Exactly lil.
No one needs an automatic weapon except to kill someone.
Of course, my family is pretty rustic--he used to hunt with a longbow for god's sake! Slingshots for squirrels...I even had a BB gun when I turned 8. See, not all lefty commie homo surrender monkeys are anti-gun.
Hell, my dad was a licensed firearms dealer.
So, as you say, not all of us fall into the same imaginary box folks like to put us in.
We're city slickers all the way. I am OK with guns, I just think if you need a license and competence to drive a car, you should for something that was designed to kill someone.
And I also think the 2nd Amendment is quite clear--I used to think more gun protection laws were good, but after I really debated with myself I think it's hypocritical for me to think that anything goes with freedom of speech, but that the 2nd Amend. needs to be regulated. So technically, any federal gun law passed by the Congress is unconstitutional--that's how I read it anyway.
But the gun people on the other side of the aisle must also concede that if they want no gun laws, there should be no obscenity laws regarding free speech.
