and welcome back monkey!!
topic of discussion ??
Here's one: Is Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone appropriate for children under the age of 12?
(I'm thinking of starting a thread called "Broadway World.com support group: For those of you who feel the addiction has gone to far" hehe)

haha it's okay.
I think it's appropriate since I read it when I was 10 or so and loved it. Got me addicted.
Younger kids love the magic and fantasy. :)
lol winokur, is that your homework?
yah, I agree with sammy
*dum de dum* yup!! But I have it done already. I also feel it is appropriate. For these reasons:
1) It teaches the child not to give into the fear of a name, for it increases the fear of that object even more, and also increases it's power (I.E. Voldemort. Everyone calls him 'you-know-who'.)
2) It shows the value of friendship. Harry's friends are willing to do things that are against the rule, and quite possibly stupid, just to stay true to Harry. They don't want to let him get hurt, and want to be there for him. (I.E. Bringing Hagrid's dragon to the tower to get rid of it, so Hagrid wouldn't get in trouble)
3) Love and hate are challenged in this novel. And love comes out on top. (I.E. Harry was protected from Voldemorts power b/c of Harry's mother's love for him. Her love was in his skin, and something w/ that much love caused pain to Voldemort.)
4) Evil and Good are also both very well depicted in this story. (I.E. Voldemort vs. Dumbledore. Harry vs. Snape...) And Good comes out on top.
That's about it. I don't like my English teacher one bit. But I love writing. That's basically my paper in the nutshell...cut down from 6 pages lol. Fun fun fun!! But we also had to take things that would be negative and reasons why people may think that the book would be innapropriate, and then refute them to be positive things. Most people went w/ the fact that they use magic, and that there is alcohol in the story. I, on the other hand, wanted to think out of the box.
that's very good, winokur!:)
Haha thanks. I just love being referred to as "winokur". It's awesomeness!! I wonder if Marissa ever reads these boards...
