Casinos bring in foot traffic, and tourism drives much of the economy in a place like NYC. I've seen how casinos in places like Atlantic City and Las Vegas affect the surrounding areas, some for better and others not. It might encourage more people to visit Midtown but could also pull money away from Broadway and other local businesses.
