Now that the final new musical on broadway has started previews I thought it be interesting to look at the new shows that were planned at the beginning of the season. Feel free to disagree with some of my opinions.

XANADU: Expected:The flop of the season.
Results: One of the most universally praised shows of the season and in position for a Tony nomination.

LONE STAR LOVE Expected: A possible Tony contender
Results: Didn't even make it to Broadway on account of their star.

YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN Expected: Mel Brooks would strike lightning twice with another big budget adaptation of one of his most loved movies
Results: Mixed reviews even with the presence of some quality broadway stars

THE LITTLE MERMAID Expected: Disney would rebound after Tarzan and Mary Poppins with the adaptation of one of there most loved movie-musicals
Results: The box office has remained steady even though the show was pretty much paned by critics.

PASSING STRANGE Expected: An Off-Broadway that may not have been able to adapt to a Broadway stage
Results The best reviewed show of the year that has already gotten a lot of support from the Scaryotypes on this board

IN THE HEIGHTS
Expected: To be a solid Off-Broadway transfer that would be overshadowed by Young Frankenstein and The Little Mermaid
Results: Overall positive reviews and currently doing very solid business

A CATERED AFFAIR
Expected: To be this season's GREY GARDENS or THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA
Results: Mixed reviews but still one of the better musicals this season

CRY-BABY
Expected: To be the next Hairspray and possibly have a shot at BEST MUSICAL
Results: Based on word of mouth from this site, it has gotten very mixed to negative buzz. The show will officially open thursday.

Disney needs to rebound after Mary Poppins? I thought it was doing fine...could be wrong though.
