I hope there will be a cast album for this show.
Anyone know if one is planned?

Sure hope so - it is a brilliant score and a great cast!
Meanwhile, all the songs can be heard on Patty's various CDs (but you have to buy several titles to get them all - the best is her "Impossible Dream" CD which has five major songs from the show - in fact, I was listening to it when I found this thread...her concert CD "A Kiss in Time" has another four of the songs from the show)...but there's nothing like a cast CD!
Since she is with a major label, perhaps the chance is pretty good. If it transfers, it will definitely get one.

It is not the same to hear other recordings compared to this cast.
Let us hope they capture Mr. Morrison's clear and elegant sound while they have him in the cast. From the first song you know you are in for a singing treat. There are a couple duets where, above Ms. Molloy, he comes in with unforced, very high-note harmony that is a joy to hear. Sounds as if he is hitting countertenor range in a head voice rather than falsetto, hard to tell. He is in very good voice.
My favorite song fom the evening as the content of the songs go is Mare Winningham's solo "Making Pies," which seems a tribute to the lives of ordinary working people. (I think they should give a brief intermission after that song, by the way, as it seems a natural place for one and it is hard for an audience to sit a straight 1 hour, 45 minutes.)
The accompaniment and orchestrations are lovely and do not overpower the singers. Usually in a small theatre like that I wouldn't think you'd have to mic the singers, but the sound quality is so good I didn't mind the mics.

I hope so! I'd love to hear Mare Winningham sing Making Pies and Kite!
Patty is not on a major label, by the way... she is on Dave Matthews' ATO Records. They DO distribute through BMG but it's a small indie label. She used to be on A&M but these morons dropped her because they didn't know how to sell her eclectic music to the masses... I guess major labels are increasingly afraid of what can't be categorized and easily referenced... it's after all much easier to sell what you can put on a labelled shelf... but I'm ranting :p
Patty is however very generous with her music. She has been covered by a variety of people, most recently by Kelly Clarkson on American Idol Gives Back (I swear if I hear one more time how everyone loved that 'new Kelly Clarkson song', I'm going to have a stroke!) so I don't think there should be an ego trip if they ever decide to make a cast recording.
