"Someone should play Take Care of This House for Mr. Bush."
I thought one of the reasons Mr Bush stood for office was because he thought Mr Clinton didn't take care of it.
Back on topic, Nina Bernstein Simmons is doing a presentation at Manchester's Bridgewater Hall next month, which I shall be attending. If there's a Q&A session I shall ask her about this show.

"Someone should play Take Care of This House for Mr. Bush."
Strangely, Judy Kaye sang it for the first President Bush on In Performance at the White House, which was telecast on PBS.

I think that not an Inauguration Day will go by where I won't think of "Duet for One."
To answer an earlier question, I don't believe there is any known video footage of the show. But Lord knows what someone might have in a private collection. (Ohhh, if only to be able to see what Routledge did during "Duet"...)

I attended the presentation I refer to above this week. It was modulated by Humphrey Burton (Bernstein biographer and producer of the documentary about the Bernstein-conducted Carreras/Te Kanawa recording of West Side Story) and took the form of a lecture on Bernstein's career with film/video excerpts, and then a documentary made by Bernstein's children on their attempts to replicate Bernsteins educational concert performances for children.
Whilst the thrust of the evening was clearly towards Bernstein as an educator, there was a Q&A session at the end with Burton and Nina Bernstein Simmons, at which I asked about 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The comments from Nina were very much along the lines of "great score/lousy book so what can you do" although Burton did comment on how very topical the subject matter is at the moment and therefore it would be a good time for a revival.
I also asked about The Exception and the Rule/A Pray by Blecht/The Road to Ergo and was told that the Bernstein Estate were hoping to licence some of the songs for public performance soon, and that an eye should be kept on the Bernstein website for progress on this.

Someone should play Take Care of This House for Mr. Bush.
Someone should teach that song in every kindergarten class and play it before every presidential debate.

Today while I was looking through a few books of mine I found this picture of Tony Walton's costume design for Ken Howard as President Roosevelt.
Just something I found interesting.
