Has anyone seen this? Either the original in the theater (Lyric Theatre: Queensland, Australia), or the DVD? I just received mine and recommend it highly!
A marvelous production with an absolutely brilliant cast - Jon English, Marc James, Simon Gallagher, Toni Lamond, Helen Donaldson and The Fabulous Singlettes.
I got it from Deep Discount DVD.
Saw it in Melbourne and not long ago on cable. Theres also the Mikado ( sp ) with close enough to the same cast.
There where some of the most popular family shows to play in the early 90's..
The Fabulous Singlettes where great, there shows which toured Australia in the 80's where a blast.
They are hilarious. I love how the staging/music is played up to accommodate their comedic talents.
I had never seen Lamond before this except in still shots - she is really beautiful. And what a voice!
Toni Lamond is a legend.
Saw here in 42 street, The most amazing concert version of "FOLLIES" any one who saw that sunday night in the early 90's witnessed history..Was a who's who of Australia showbiz talent...
Have never sat in a threate that had so much engry ever, the only problem with the night was they where not allowed to record it..
I know she is. I have 3 of her cd's and both her autobios. Incredible life she's had, and incredible talent she possesses. I hope to get to see her live someday.
I've read about that FOLLIES production - she writes about it in Still a Gypsy.
Have spoken to her a couple of times, she is such a warm and giving woman.
But don't think she has done anything in the last few years, hopefully she will be seeing Debbie Reyonlds at the same time i do.
She recently did THE FULL MONTY in Canberra, and performed at the opening gala of the Kookaburra. Is that it? The national non-profit?
She also premiered her new one-woman show at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival in June.
That's it, must admit have not really looked whats about in other states at the moment ( in melbourne here )cause the state of theatre ( musicals ) is sadly lacking..
Unlike when i used to work in the industry back in the 90's was never out of work for more than 6 weeks at a time, but now theres nothing...2 big shows in Sydney end of year, Melbourne nothing till Miss Saigon march next year..
Gone are the days of one show ending another one coming weeks after, it seems like people would rather spend money on sport..
I hope to god that Kookaburra works the way it should...only tme will tell...
Yes, we've discussed the sad state of Aussie theatre...let's hope PRISCILLA works and is a hit.
Seeing both PRISCILLA and Titanic lets hope both work and become hits..
I look forward to your reviews, especially PRISCILLA since that's new.
Part of the problem of not getting any new shows rosscoe is that the producers of the new shows are asking way too much for the Australian rights. I heard that WICKED were asking $10 million, with our small population the chances of recouping are at best minimal. Oh well there is always MARY POPPINS late 07. Updated On: 7/25/06 at 10:22 PM
Anyone else seen this, bought it, have it, planning on buying it?
I hear it's now on Netflix as well!
