WHERE: Merriam Theater, 250 S. Broad Street (between Locust & Spruce Streets. Post-ceremony gala reception at Hamilton Hall, 320 S. Broad Street.

WHO: Presenters and performers will include numerous local personalities such as Peter Nero, Tony Braithwaite, Madi Distefano, Scott Greer, Nicole Canuso, Karen Getz, Deborah Block, Harvey and Virginia Kimmel, Suzanne Roberts, Ben Dibble, James Sugg, Kraig Swartz, Dawn Falato, Dito van Reigersberg, Ian Merrill Peakes, William J. Marrazzo of WHYY, Lyn Pierce Strickler of Harmelin Media, Richard Maimon of Kieran Timberlake, Patrick Rapa of City Paper, Jeanne Wrobleski of the Charlotte Cushman Foundation, Erin Weaver, Kimmika Williams Witherspoon, Sherri Edelen, Jarrod Emick, and Josh Sauerman. Special video segments will feature surprise guests including a member of the Philadelphia Eagles.

DETAILS: The recipients of the 2006 Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theatre will be announced at the Gala Barrymore Award Ceremony, presented by the Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia on October 23rd. A gala reception for all will follow at Dorrance Hamilton Hall at the University of the Arts. Tickets are available online at www.theatrealliance.org or by calling (215) 413-7150.

Philadelphia theatre luminary Mary Martello will host an unforgettable night of performances and celebration. An actress and singer, Ms. Martello’s extraordinary talent has graced dozens of stages throughout the Philadelphia region and has earned her multiple Barrymore Awards, most recently for the role of Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd at Arden Theatre Company, and a nomination this year for Outstanding Leading Actress in a Play for Azuka Theatre’s The Boys.

Songs will be performed from each of the five musicals nominated for Outstanding Overall Production of a Musical; A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Arden Theatre Company), Winesburg, Ohio (Arden Theatre Company), A Murder, A Mystery, & A Marriage: A Mark Twain Musical Melodrama (Delaware Theatre Company), Waiting for the Moon (Lenape Regional Performing Arts Center), and Dreamgirls (Prince Music Theater).

The nominees represent a diverse group of both large and small theatre companies from across the Greater Philadelphia region including Arden Theatre Company, Wilmington’s Delaware Theatre Company, Lantern Theater Company, Marlton, New Jersey’s Lenape Regional Performing Arts Center, Philadelphia Theatre Company, Malvern’s The People’s Light & Theatre Company, Pig Iron Theatre Company, Prince Music Theater, Theatre Exile, Villanova Theatre, and The Wilma Theater. The Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to Robert Hedley, and a Special Recognition Award will be presented to ComedySportz Philadelphia.
