Hi Everyone, I'm going to NY for this Christmas vacation (I'm staying a week) and I'm spending most of my time going to Broadway Musicals, I have almost one show per day but I have one day left, Of the following which one would you recommend the most: Spamalot, Spring Awakening or Xanadu, I've heard the 3 of them are great, it's just that I don't know which one should i go see:
Spring won the Tony, I heard Xanadu is hillarious and I really like Monthy Pyton & the Holy Grail. Your thoughts??

I like Xanadu than Spamalot.. bec. I am not really into that Monty Python thing!

But if youre into that Monty Python.. I'd go with Spamalot. Theyre both same genry, both parodies... you do have three advantages with Xanadu though-

1. you'll get to see the Original Cast vs. Spamalot. I saw Spamalot in 2005 .. its cute ! but I was not really impressed with it. (just my opinion)

2. you can sit onstage for Xanadu..you get to experience how is it to be on a Broadway stage.

3. and have I mentioned its only around $40. +

Go with Xanadu..skip Spring Awakening & Spamalot. Ive seen them all with the original cast and I enjoyed Xanadu.. the most ! re: 3 Options

For your 3 options = you'll have 3 advantages for picking Xanadu... and stage dooring at the Helen Hayes (Xanadu) the best experience you'll ever had. Trust me..
I know what I am talking..I stage doored to all these shows. re: 3 Options

I agree with JayStar -- Xanadu is the most fun. Spamalot is getting a little old and SA is VERY serious with a heavy metal rock score. It what you want is sheer fun, Xanadu by all means.

Thanks guys! Your thoughts are being really helpful, I know I will like Xanadu, it's just that how long do you think this shows are gonna be on Broadway because I won't be returning for a long while, I haven't decided yet because as I said I like Monty Python and I love the music by Dunkan Sheik (Spring A)
Also, about Xanadu how is this sit on stage thing?
The price for Xanadu is something I would be willing to pay!One question, Is it the cheapest one of the 3 of them?
Oh yes and I know it would be fun meeting Kerry Butler after the show. lol.

I have not seen Spamalot. Of the other two (and I know I will be in the minority here), I say DEFINITELY Spring Awakening. No, it's not "fun", and it's dark, and it's racy, and some of the staging is pretentious, but I think it would make for a far more fulfilling and original theatrical experience than those other more fluffy things. But maybe that's what you like.

Xanadu kind of left me cold, to be honest. I was ready to have a blast, but I thought it tried way too hard from moment one, and had nowhere to go. There were some cute parts, and good performances, but I didn't think the script was good. (And I was on-stage and everything....)

What other shows are you seeing?

"I mean, sitting side by side with another man watching Patti LuPone play Rose in GYPSY on Broadway is essentially the equivalent of having hardcore sex." -Wanna Be A Foster. "Say 'Goody.' Say 'Bubbi.'" ... "That's it. Exactly as if it were 'Goody.' Now I know you're gonna sing 'Goody' this time, but nevertheless..."

Thanks gymdudeva, I know exactly what you mean I like both comedy and drama, maybe I'll go for Spring Awakening, now I just have to decide between those two, I really want to see both, but there's no time so...,
I guess I'll just have to see what mood I'm in once I'm there, do you think it would be too risky for me to wait and buy them there, or should I buy them now on telecharge? What do u think?
Broadway Enthusiast I'm also seeing the following shows: (have my tickets already)
Phantom of the Opera (big fan of the film and have never seen the show)
Rent (love music! never seen the show! I know.. 2 classics lol.)
Mary Poppins, Wicked, Legally Blonde, Lion King & Little Mermaid. So exited!! Been waitin all year!

Can you sell your tickets to some of those shows and see more than one of your options? LOL

I'd say narrow down your choices between Xanadu and Spring Awakening. Personally, I'd go with Xanadu, it was just a very fun show. Chances are Spring Awakening will be playing for awhile, not sure how long Xanadu will last, but it's definitely worth checking out. You'll definitely leave with a smile on your face and I dare say it's better than most of the shows you already have tickets for.

Rotel brings up a good point....since SA and Xanadu are arguably two of the best choices of all, maybe ditch one of the others and see both! What else are you seeing?

Both seem to be at TKTS a lot lately....I don't know if Christmas is a busy or slow season, but if $ is a factor, you might just want to gamble...chances are good one or both will be there....they both play in small theatres, so you really can't get bad seats...

You ask about on-stage seating for Xanadu. Both SA and X. have on-stage seating, but for SA, it sells out right away. For X., I think it's usually available via Telecharge, and it's cheap. You just sit in a semi-circle on stage. It's first-come-first-serve as to seat choice. You are pretty visible to the audience, and unlike SA, the cast may interact with you a little. They are always skating around you, and you can see the actors getting ready to enter, the scenery going in and out, etc. And at the end, you are sort of part of the show, standing, dancing, and waving your glow-sticks. (No glow-sticks in SA, LOL!!)

Wow! that sure sounds like a very fun experience i would like to be part of, and I'm glad it's not expensive.
Damn, I don't know, I really want to see both.
But thanks for all your comments guys!
Oh one more thing, I'm kind of new in all of this so, could someone tell be what this TKTS thing is? Thanks for explaining stage seating, sounds good!

TKTS is a booth that sells half price tickets on the day of the show. One of them is in Time Sqaure and the other is down in South Street Seaport(This one sells matinee tickets the day before). I'm not a fan of TKTS and I'll tell you why.
1. A TKTS ticket is usally between $55-$70
2. During X-mas week it is VERY hard to find shows on TKTS
3. There a cheapest methods of getting the same if not better seats.

Rent does a lottery for the front two rows of the Orc for $20 (I've seen the show 12 times and I think I've sat in the lotto seats like 8 they are amazing and only $20)
SA does Student rush: I went for a Thursday night show during the summer and got there at 6:45AM and the box office opened at 10 and I got Right Orc Row E for $26.00 It was considered Partical view but the only thing that I missed was because a guy was standing in my sightline for like not even 5 minutes.
I would say see RENT and SA
Enjoy whatever you choose to see

Rent The best show on Broadway. I was at the closing. BEST night of my Life. April 29th 1996-September 7th 2008 12 years of love "No Day But Today"

Thank you coolkid, I remember seeing that booth at Times Square now, really don't wanna spend my time there.
I think the student rush at Spring A sounds like a really good option and I think that's exactly what I'm doing. I have already bought my tickets for RENT, which i simply HAD to see.
For this student rush, I imagine I have to show a credential right? Also, I'm from Mexico, do you think if I show a valid student credential from Mexico they would consider me for this discount?
