#13 Variations

This Weekend has been one of THE most productive weekends ever. I saw 3 shows of variations.

1st was Hair, I arrived in the city a lot earlier than anticipated. I wondered over to see if there was any commotion at the Al Hirschfeld, I already had my ticket and noticed that the lottery was being held in a few minutes. I found a couple and thought it wouldn't hurt to increase their chances of attending the show. Low and Behold I was the 1st winner of the lottery. Then the couple I told would get my tickets if I won, also won. They kindly passed the offer to another name to be picked.

I was in row D orchestra to the left. It was a great seat but it got even greater. The adult couple I was sitting next to were Sasha Allen's parents. I had a nice conversation with them. I got to go on stage and what not. At the stage door I ran into Michael Ian Black the comedian from Comedy Central/VH1's I Love the 80's series. I ended that perfect night with great photo's with Gavin Creel and the rest of the youthful energetic cast! I never felt so much into a show until HAIR.

2nd Show- West Side Story, I paid full price for the ticket. As much as I like to help stimulate the Broadway economy, I felt somewhat regretful about it. Other posts have already mentioned the miscasting and the Spanish translated songs. My take on the espanol lyrics, was that they overused the translations. I felt one song completely in Spanish was sufficient. Tony, I wouldn't see why anyone wouldn't shoot him. Maria, I felt she has so much potential but in the show, she does not get to get the chance to use it. The show was eh... Not terrible but good would be stretching it to say the least.

3rd Show- Blithe Spirit would be my 2nd play I have seen. The first being Roundabout's Hedda Gabler. I was aware of the plot before seeing the show. The beginning was somewhat slow. But when all was said and done, FABULOUS with the humor. I felt Christine was superb as Elvira. The Edith character, I felt was in the show "too" much. Angela, was spot on with the lines and was very charismatic. Rupert, I felt needs more time in the show. I got a picture of Angela with me at the Stage Door, CASE CLOSED, My life is now complete.

jk, This weekend was very long but only in good taste.

P.S.- look for me in the upcoming video blogs for HAIR :)
