Hi all...really excited cause I just found out that Beth Leavel, who replaced Christine Ebersol in "42nd Street", will be playing Ms. Hannigan in "Annie" at Lyric Theater in Oklahoma City this week!
I looooved her Dorothy Brock on Broadway! She and Tom Wopat were so good together. I can only imagine how great she'll be! I'll let you know when I catch the show next week!

Posted: 7/4/04 at 11:32amno one EVER wishes they were in Oklahoma, unless it was the Broadway Musical, and that is questionable too! she must really have had nothing going on in her life to come to Okla. for a weeks gig, although it is a great role...but Oklahoma??? Phantom, any fun response from you, it is the 4th afterall, please indulge me!

While I agree that OK perhaps aint' Broadway, it's better than being stuck in some tiny, ugly little town where they do theater in a barn.
Boling Springs, PA anyone?

Actually...my understanding is, they are paying her quite a nice tidy sum to do the role. Something she told me right before she left.
She's done Hannigan before and actually I have been thru Oklahoma three times on tour myself, it's a nice place to visit. Please do let us know how she is. :)

Not sure, I think her contract simply ran out and they decided to give Shirley Jones a go at the role. There are those of us who are hoping she would be asked back to reprise Brock for the closing of the show, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. :)

I hear she's knocking them dead in rehearsals...
Wish I could catch her! I'm sure she's playing Hannigan "less frumpy" than usual.

Hi all..I saw the show on opening night. I've only seen one other tour of "Annie" (I think it was the non Equity one a few years ago and it wasn't really good). Since my parents get me tickets for my birthday each year, I chose "Annie".
All I can say is that this "Annie" BLEW THE ROOF OFF THE THEATER!
Beth Leavel is amazing. I saw her in "42nd Street" and loved her. She is fabulous as Hannigan..she's so funny and stop the show several times. Daddy Warbuck (Ron Brown) was great and has a good voice as does Grace (Regina Dowling). Im also liked Rooster (Jaminson Stern..he was in another fav of mine, "By Jeeves") and FDR (Dan Meagher). The orphans were great and could sing and dance well. In short, it was a fantastic show!
During intermission, there was a rumor that the author (Martin Charnin) was there cause he's putting together a new Broadway revivial (anyone know if this is true?). If so, I hope he takes Beth and some of these other performers. It would rock New York!

Thanks for sharing! I am so happy that she's knocking em dead down there.
P.S. She is also scheduled to appear in 42nd St at the MUNY in St. Louis in August. Keep a look out. :)

If there are any reviews of this show online, could you possibly point me in the direction to a link? I'd like to add it to her page. Thanks!

Posted: 7/8/04 at 9:15amyou can go to the Oklahoman newspaper to see the review..not too good, except for Beth and maybe that is why she came, to get several thousands for 2 weeks work, get it on her resume and have a great review, which she knew upfront she would get, to add to her portfolio. My friend Michael called me and said he left at intermission of the show in OKC, and his friend said there was NO direction for the actors and most were college age and highschool, and that is probably why Beth shines, but he thought she was "over the top" and that Warbucks was a "cartoon character" and there was no emotion between he and Annie, and no romance at all between he and Grace. That is their story anyways and the reviewer did not like it either and they said he usually likes anything this theatre puts on and writes a good review....who knows

wow....maybe your "friend" should have seen the show that is playing, cause they sure didn't see the one in Oklahoma City.
By the way, where did you get that the Daily Oklahomian didn't like the show? Especially with the headline "Annie Shines.."? Doesn't sound like a pan to me. Also, the Oklahomian loved Daddy Warbuck (did you read that) and Grace? And of course, an amazing performance by Beth Leavel.
Sorry your friend "left" at intermission. Maybe it was becuaee he couldn't see the stage due to the standing ovation?

Posted: 7/8/04 at 11:01amsorry, the way I read it on the internet sounded like he loved Beth, but thought the kids sang "shrill" and barely mentioned Warbucks. Being that the woman playing Grace is from that theatre in OKC, I am sure he would be kind, it is called "home-cookin" but never the less, he said lots was missing from the show and was not pieced well together. I do not know, was not there, but my friend is a director and well thought of, and if he said it was really bad and left at intermission, then it waas. I have only known him to leave one other production and that was in another city years ago. This is not a Tour, just a local production! and LOTS of people have varying opinions when they see a show. The REview from the Oklahoman was NOT a rave review and far from it. Headlines can be deceiving, and one must also read between the lines.

wow Stage..nice lies. For your information:
1) The headline is "Annie is a Joy"....you call that a PAN? the critic did have some faults but it certainly wasn't a pan like you said.
2) the lady who plays grace is not from Oklahoma City...where in the hell did you make up that lie? She's from LA and has worked for the company before.
3) where does the reviewer say yhat Annie sang shrill. Oh..I know..no where. Just another lie.
I'm sorry you wern't talented enough to get cast in the show. But with your attitude, I'm not suprised!
I'm seeing the show tomorrow and can't wait! I'll be happy top provide a "lie" free report!

Wow! Who knew Oklahoma could cause so much Ruckus. :)
Here is the Link to the review from the Daily Oklahoman. There is a preview article from last week online also. but this is the latest review.
"Lyric's 'Annie' shines despite minor setbacks"

Grace>http://www.newsok.com/article/1276185/?template=>http://www.newsok.com/article/1276185/?template=
Grace is played by Regina Dowling who is Indeed from Oklahoma City. :) She moved to LA after graduating from OCU. She's a sweetie and talented.
Lyric does good work, so I'm sure it's a gr8 show.
