Ok, so I was watching Broadway: the American Musical last night for the 4th or so time. 42st, Cats And I noticed something I thought was weird. They were talking about 42 street and then Cats and said that 42 street opened in 1980 and ran for 8 years at the Winter Garden theatre. Ok. Then they said that the next show to occupy the Winter Gardent theatre was the longest running show on Broadway- Cats. It ran for 18 years, right. Ok so a little math. 1980+8=1988 1988+18=2006? Somehow, this doesn't make sense to me. That Cats closed in 2006. Lol. Could someone help me out? Thanks!

42nd Street switched to the Majestic in early 1982, I believe. Cats opened that October.

42nd street ran at the Winter Garden from 8/25/1980 to 3/29/1981

It moved to the Majestic Theatre and ran there from 3/30/1981 to 4/5/1987

It then moved again, this time to the St. James where it ran from 4/7/1987 to 1/8/1989

There were actually three other shows in the Winter Garden after 42nd Street and before Cats. The Catherine Wheel, Camelot and Othello.

Thank you so much! I was so confused! That makes MUCH more sense. They fail to tell you that on the video. re: 42st, Cats
