Okay, let me just say that going into this, I expected one of the worst first previews I've ever seen, with constant set malfunctions, dropped lines, and overall a complete mess. However, what I saw was a musical which not only promised, but delivered, and it just could beat Billy Elliot... with a few minor changes.

First off, I loved the curtain, made entirely of phone chords and phones which were placed to look like a rising sun. Though this may sound unappealing, bright colored lights liven it up, making it a worthy replacement for Hairspray's Best Show Curtain title. The theatre was PACKED! not to mention it was filled with celebrities. Caroline Rhea was spotted in the Orchestra, and in the row right in front of me were Hunter bell, Jeff Bowen, and Michael Berresse! BEST SEATS EVER! I literally asked them to sign my playbill, and Hunter, after asking my name, starts saying "Hi, I'm Hunter...", when Jeff interupts saying "I think he knows that..."

The first act seemed a little oddly paced, but there's no unfixable problem. If they put "Backwoods Barbie" after the office scene where Dorallee threatens to change Hart from a rooster to a hen, instead of right after "I Just Might", it would give the song SUCH a better placement. Also, if they extend the copy disaster scene just a little more, it would make the song immediately after much less forced.

Act Two is pretty much perfect, though the ending needs just a little more work, and then it will be a great show. I really had no clue that the elevator didn't work. What is it supposed to do? Overall, great show, and with a few slight changes, it will be more than great, it really could win.

As I've said, which ever show shows the most promise to travel well on the road WILL win. From last night, I would definately say that it's not only doing well with audiences, but it WILL be a hit. Let Billy and 9 to 5 battle it out!
