Trying out for Bye Bye Birdie but I don't really want to sing anything from it. I'm 13 year old soprano and was thinking about doing a song by Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich. Some advice por favor...

I have performed in Bye Bye Birdie. Usually the last 16 bars are pretty good choices of the song that would definitely fit in 90 seconds. What role are you auditioning for? When I did it Rosie belted. I also don't know what you look like. Choose a song that shows off your voice and is comfortable for you. Don't choose anything too high or too low for your voice. How much experience have you had? I personally would sing a song that shows off the character that you want (the personality and the range). I also recommend singing songs from other musicals. I agree with you about not choosing a song from the show. Have you ever seen Bye Bye Birdie? If you havent than it would be good to at least see the movie that gives you an idea of the characters. I assume you would want Kim. I would advise singing a song that has at least a G or A above the staff. The song "One Boy" is pretty high. That is actually from the musical. Just sing something high and lyrical. Like Till there was You from The Music Man. HAVE FUN! Audition for every show you can. The more you audition the more comfortable you will get. Make sure to watch and do research for whatever show you audition for.

I've done a couple of shows in Philly before and have seen Bye Bye Birdie a million times. Thanks a ton 4 the help. That makes sense. Damn i love when things make sense. Probably something in my higher belting range makes sense... but the only thing thats worring me is that I can only do 90 seconds and cant pick a certain part of a song to do. Once again, any ideas?

Time the song. That is the only way to know if it is 90 seconds. I have done 90 second packages for auditions but I have never heard of an audition that you have to have a 90 second song and you can't choose a part of it. Honey Bun is a good Belt song.
Something cute and trilly, "Lovely" from Forum or hmm...I thought of something once and I can't now. "Much More" from Fantasticks or "Many a New Day" from Oklahoma? Much More might be your best bet. It's kinda overdone, but it should be fine.

I think a girl group pop song from the early 60s/late 50s is appropriate for Birdie. The kids chorus in this show were trying to sound "pop" for the time period.
