I haven't really seen anything on this board about Broadway plays. It has a butt-load of musical threads. I was just wondering about people's opinions on the plays currently on Broadway. Like "I am my own wife", is it mainly dramatic or a comedy? I don't know much about the show, but one man playing forty different characters sounds like quite a sight to see. Or any other plays opinions are welcome...
but I am heading to bed and will check back in the morning. Good night from good ole Tennessee.

I AM MY OWN WIFE is mesmerizing. Mays is able to morph from character to character without the traditional use of costume or special effects...just by using plain great acting. It's a play, perhaps not to everyone's taste, but to me made even more interesting by the fact that it was based on an actual person. This was a person who lived through some historical moments.
I was impressed with the set and use of lighting. (Thought you'd enjoy seeing how effectively that was done, BT11.) Certainly deserving of its Tonys.
A RAISIN IN THE SUN is a solid play. Yes it is bringing in an audience that seems more at easy at the movies. That, from my experience, was an understatement. But see it for Rashad. She was nothing short of phenomenal.

Several of us post frequently about plays on this site -- I written lots of long posts about I Am My Own Wife, Jumpers, Raisin, Frozen, Match, Bug, Normal Heart, Intimate Apparel, Blackbird, CVR and Homebody/Kabul among others -- they just don't stay on the board long because not as many people respond to them as to the Wicked and Avenue Q threads. I'll be seeing Lynn Nottage's Fabulation, Kathy & Mo's Afterbirth (as well as The Frogs and Threepenny Opera) soon, so look out for posts from myself and others on them.

the play "I am my own wife" is one of the best story plays ever conceived. The way Mr. mays brings you into this crazy world that was Germany in WWII times is incredible.
The play is not for everyone though. I was about halfway back and there were three rows of school kids there( im surprised they ddin't see beauty and the beast or Millie) and lets put it this way by the 30 minute mark i had almost perfect seats.
No matter what the play is one of the cheaper shows on broadway( i got my tickets a month in advance from broadway box) and its probably one of the best of the new millenium
