I believe that they were. I know Charlotte hit hers by accident with her hat (I think?) the first night of previews and it gave off a nice static sound. It seems like some of the mics are attached to clothing (Charlotte was one of them) from what I could see in the front row, not necessarily threaded up through the hair to the forehead on all the actors. So possibly, they aren't mic'd like some of the more current shows....
From what I've read the original production wasn't body mic'd??

Posted: 9/21/06 at 11:47amThe original was not, at least not initially. Nor were the national companies. I always thought the show had a strange muffled sound, with the hidden orchestra piped in and the sometimes merely adequate singers' voiced picked up by foot mics. I may be wrong, but I would assume the show added body mics by the end (I saw it when McKechnie went back in, late, and the singing certainly seemed louder.)

Posted: 9/21/06 at 12:26pmI agree with NJGirl. Was there first night of previews also, didn't see any mics. But at one point Charlotte thumped against her chest, and you heard a louder sound as if she was thumping a mic.
