A Chorus Line / West Side Story

I thought there was talk about a revival of West Side Story for this season, if not next... In my opinion, I wish WSS was back before A Chorus Line. For some reason, I thought I saw Jerry Mitchell's name connected with West Side Story revival but I could totally be off.

There was rumor of a revival for the 50th anniversary of WSS, but I think it was merely that, a rumor.

Jerry Mitchell's name has been associated with a West Side Story revival for a while now. Mitchell was assistant to Jerome Robbins in Jerome Robbins' Broadway and re-created his choreography for the 2003 Gypsy revival so it's no surprise that he'd be in charge of the rumored revival.
Laura Benanti is a little too old for Maria, at least in my opinion.
Natalie Cortez would make a devine Anita though.

You may want to change the title of this thread to just WEST SIDE STORY REVIVAL?... there's enough CHORUS LINE stuff. Just a suggestion because I want more talk about this subject.

It was more than a rumor for a while. But there's some creative disagreement and for now the revival has been put on hold.

I bet she would surprise us. I would love the idea of Natalie Cortez as Maria.

I'm still so surprised that they are reviving LES MIS before WEST SIDE STORY gets revived. It's such a well-known show and it has yet to have a million revivals, unlike GREASE. Updated On: 10/12/06 at 11:34 PM

If any ACL cast member is going to do Anita, I vote for Michelle Aravena. I would die to see her portrayal of that role again. I was lucky enough to catch it 5 times while The Walnut Street Theatre in Philly was putting it on 2 summers ago.

She was killer! :)

I agree that Maria is not in Natalie Cortez' singing range which is why I said she'd be a great Anita.

Natalie can sing Maria - she played Maria. She's a soprano.
