I wrote to the SF Chorus Line website to point out that they had an intermission listed on their site. As of right now, it is no longer there and the running time has been changed to: "Approximately 2 hours (no intermission). Great news. (See other thread).

Posted: 7/17/06 at 4:55pmThere is really no need for one in ACL,but I may be in the minority on this one.

Posted: 7/17/06 at 4:57pmWell, lets just hope they do the show at the right tempos: when done right, the show is closer to 1:50.

Posted: 7/17/06 at 5:12pmThat is what I seem to remember MB, but it has been a while.

"...when done right, the show is closer to 1:50."
I agree.

Posted: 7/17/06 at 5:17pmWhen you watch the tape of the show at the Public, the tempos are actually the first thing you notice. Bennett really took the show at a feverish pitch. Surely Lee and Bob Avian will do the same. The danger comes when you let the actors languish over those monologues.

Poor rentboy's bladder! And he'll feel cheated!
I do hope you enjoy the musical, rentboy--it's terrific!

When I spent time on the original production, sometimes the show came in around 1:45. Depends on the audience.
Kinda like "Drowsy". The laughter can easily add another 15 minutes to the show...

Posted: 7/17/06 at 5:29pmIs A CHORUS LINE really that funny? I mean 15 minutes in laughs? That must have been when Phyllis Diller was playing Cassie.

Very funny MB!! Actually, it was Charlotte Rae with Nipsey Russell as Paul...
I should have been clearer. The applause in ACL can add minutes to the show. And/or the conducter, dancer's, etc...

Why is it that every time I go to the movies, at least 95% of the audience seems to manage to sit through a two hour movie without getting up to pee, yet people worry about a sitting through a play with no intermission?
Personally, I've never gotten up in the middle of a movie, and i very rarely try to use the restroom during intermission of a play. I usually stay in my seat.

"The danger comes when you let the actors languish over those monologues."
Do I recall reading that during some rehearsals of the original production Bennett placed a metronome on the edge of stage to help pace the monologues? Sounds crazy but I thought I read that years and years ago. Then again, maybe it was in one of my stranger dreams.

We all can't be you Jon. Some of us pee.
Jerby, thanks! I guess I'll just to have squeeze something out before I get to my seat - ha. What's sad is I used the bathroom before I saw Brooklyn, but by the time they got to "Streetsinger" I was having a hard time sitting still, I needed to go - ha. I guess I just won't drink anything aboug 3 hours prior to curtain.

Great News!!!
I am really interested in seeing what they will do differently (if anything) I was a little disapointed that they cast Charlotte Damboise(sp) as Cassie, I thought that Marc Kudish would have made a great Zack but that is just my thoughts....
