re: A Mary Poppins Question

The thing is too, this version gives the actress a chance to step somewhat out of Julie Andrews' shadow. This Mary Poppins isn't as sweet as she was in the movie.

"Changing a show for Broadway ALWAYS works "

Well it certainly didn't for Taboo! In its London incarnation it was raw, charming and exciting. In its Broadway version it was bloated and ridiculous.

As for Brent whatever-his-name-is that reviews for the NY Times, boy is he a waste of skin, teeth and bones! I've not taken note of his pestilent rantings since he slammed the delightful revival of Damn Yankees starring Bebe Neuwirth and Victor Garber nine or ten years ago.

re: A Mary Poppins Question

"I don't think it's fair to say that the audiences have stayed away in droves - I have seen the show 14 times, and the only time that there were some empty seats was at the beginning of September this year - the time when all the schools start the new academic year."

The last time I saw the show, there were some empty seats in the theatre -- but that was on July 8, when people were leery about travelling. But, there weren't THAT many empty seats. When I saw the show for the first time in March, it was full.

As for the books, from what I've seen on Amazon, I think there are six.

re: A Mary Poppins Question

Saturday matinees are the only shows selling out at Mary Poppins right now. The other 7 shows are ranging from sort of full to very much not. The upper circle has been closed on more than one occasion, and this was over the summer holidays. I know that the July 7th attacks had some impact, but the show wasn't booking THAT heavily for August before that.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.
