Has anyone ever heard the term McMusical? Apparently it means All American and the Mc is for McDonalds. The person refered to Hairspray as an McMusical, and I was just wondering if anybody had heard it that before?

Nope. I'm Scottish and never heard of that. I HAVE heard of Rob Roy The Musical which is a Canadian production heading for the fringe this year.

Oops! Maybe I did not make myself clear, sorry 'bout that. It isn't a musical but it is a phrase.

I've heard of the phrase...especially when used to describe the pop mega-musicals of the 80s (Phantom, Cats, etc.). I believe it refers to the exorbitant amount of money they make apparently without much substance. IMO, this is especially true of Cats

lol, not to mention the Strouse/Adams/Brooks effort "All American" from 1962. Can it get more all-american-esque...

While working on a show last winter we talked about McMusicals, however it was in a bit of a different sense, though it was similar.
