A Question About Honk!
#1A Question About Honk!
Posted: 7/6/07 at 11:23amI know this isn't a Broadway related question but the off-topic board is full of non theater stuff. We always do a large and a small cast musical. What is the minimum you have ever heard for casting. What doubling was used in Honk?

Hey there --
I just closed this show. It was a pretty large cast. There were four 'junior' ducklings (Ugly's bros and sis) and there older counterparts. They were all played by children of various ages.
As for the principal adult roles there were eight of us.
Ugly
The Cat
Ida (Ugly's Mom)
Then there were 5 of us that had 1000 costume changes.
I played The Turkey, Barnacles (a goose), The Bullfrog and Father Swan.
The other male played Drake, Greylag, and one of the swans in "The Blizzard"
One female was Maureen, Queenie and Mother Swan.
One female was Grace, Dot, Beawick and Lowbutt
One female was Henrietta, Maggie Pie (Jay Bird in the script) and Penny.
All of the cast, with the exception of Ugly, The Cat and Ida were frogs in "Warts and All"
I hope this helps. I gotta tell ya, I was asked to do this show at the last minute and I wasn't really looking forward to it. It turned out to be a VERY CHARMING show, I loved doing it and the audience reaction was TREMENDOUS.
Have fun!!!

My son's Jr. High had HONK!, the musical and their cast was pretty big. There were 78 students with about 1/2 of them doubling up and 1/4 tripling up in all. My son was cast as the "Bullfrog Bodyguard" (made up role with the play producers' permission), a goose, and the Owl.
When we watched the community theatre version nearby, the casting was the same as "Ftworthguy's" play. This play actually played "Off Broadway" and the main venue was in Indiana, where my son got the cast CD from, in order to study the play's music.
