Saw this show a few weeks ago and was shocked how great it was. I'd see it again if it's still playing when I come back to NYC in late summer. Just bought the music. Thanks for the reminder.
Well, color me pleasantly surprised — this was definitely worth the score nomination. An infectious blend of the Latin-pop hybrid of IN THE HEIGHTS and the female empowerment of WAITRESS, with a smaller chunk of the factory shenanigans of KINKY BOOTS. It feels like the kind of show that might pop up at The Muny or Paper Mill in 10 years or so... I hope this eventually becomes a hit among regional houses.
Tatianna Córdoba sounds FAB throughout, what a stunning Broadway debut.
I would love to see Krystina Alabado take on Flaca someday, she already has the Velez connection.
The catchy refrain of "The grind don't stop, don't let the ball drop" which appears in a few of these tracks probably made Lin-Manuel himself smile. Very much him musically and lyrically.
"If I Were a Bird" is giving me fetus Sabrina Carpenter vibes.
Perhaps the best rhyme of the season goes to "nozzle / menopausal" in the hilarious "Adiós Andres."
Title song at the Tonys?
