Posted: 11/3/04 at 8:01pmI saw it this summer. It was okay. Not great. The songs are just okay. There is one particuarly dreadful song (In my opinion) called "The Stoop." Ugh. SOOOO repetetive. It was the only show I've been to where there wasn't a standing ovation, if that tells you anything. It was obvious that it was an off-bway show (even though that only has to do with seats). The talent just was not the same. At least in the cast I saw. But they were giving out free pickles!

Posted: 11/3/04 at 10:54pmYeah, that's it. Was she in it this summer? Because if she was, she was really quite good. We met her mom, who was so proud of her! It is probably not the same one b/c she had to go back to school I think, but let me know.

Posted: 11/4/04 at 8:25amA friend of mine was the stage manager for this show for a while. He wouldn't allow his friends to see the show, if that says anything about the quality and artistic integrity of the show.

Posted: 11/4/04 at 8:35amI saw it last year. Pretty low quality. The music was elementary and the best acting performance (BY FAR) came from the narrator, who was also the show's director. Though clearly it touched many Jewish audience members in the audience more so than I, who am not. So I'd say, if youre looking for a nostalgic look at the lower east side with a story that's sweet albeit corny and predictable, go see it. If not, skip it.

My friend Bobby played Simon in the NY cast and he's on the tour now.
He rocks.
Catch the tour if you can. :)

ElphieDefiesGravity & Amneris
I am a friend of one of the adult castmembers in A Stoop on orchard street.
I know of the two girls you are speaking of. The one Elphie is speaking of was in the show for only about 2 months over the summer ($$ talks and her family had a lot of it..)
The other was definitely the better of the two girls, by far and was in the show for a year until the closing.
They are both talented and I'm sure will go far. I just thought that I would clear that up for you though.
The show is enjoyable. I'd say if you can catch it on tour and don't have anything better to do, go see it.

Posted: 11/22/04 at 10:46pmmy friend got me tickets the last weekend the show was opened in nyc, and i have to say I enjoyed it . It wasn't a masterpiece but, the cast worked their butts off and they were all very talented. ESPECIALLY the guy who played Simon. My god!!! But, my friend and her boyfriend were definate standouts. I know she will go far. She has always been a hard worker.
