Okay, I'm in a regional production of Sweet Charity and they cast a woman as Daddy. Now, the woman dresses like a man and goes by the name, AJ. I wouldn't have a problem with this but he/she isn't really a convincing man. He sings Daddy with a Tenor/Soprano(sp?) like voice.
Is it okay for a woman to play Daddy? I'm not really comfortable with AJ playing Daddy because he sounds and still looks to much like a woman IMHO.

I would think it would be okay. But hey, I've only seen the revival. Updated On: 1/27/07 at 11:05 PM
It's cast. NOT CASTED. Cast.
Is "regional" a pseudonym for "community theater?" Because there probably aren't enough men to play the roles, and this is a common practice. And since you aren't directing the production, your job is to just go in and do what you're supposed to do. If the director is OK with AJ, then stop worrying and have as much fun as possible.

Sorry, I'll fix that.
And, sorry, I meant community theatre. But there are pleanty of boys and I don't think the directors knew (the only reason I know is because he told me.). I'm not really worrying, I just wanted other peoples opinions on this. But thanks! :)
I saw Daddy played as a woman, except they made the character a woman.
In my opinion, the best performance of Daddy (and I have seen "S.C." a few times) was by that woman.
