I saw the new Sheldon Harnick revue "A World To Win" last night and found it to be a real delight. The format is very informal with the cast giving tidbits about the songs, as well as relaying stories Harnick shared with them during rehearsal.
The first act was mostly new for me; songs were selected from revues Harnick contributed to in the 50s and early 60s. The act wraps up with a few numbers from The Body Beautiful and Fiorello! (Little Tin Box is SO much fun!)
Act two has the rest of the Bock & Harnick canon, plus a song from Rex and a few other later projects.
I've always loved the Bock & Harnick shows, but hearing all his lyrics (and some music) in a row like this made me appreciate his genius even more. Along with Sondheim and Ebb he is one of the best to ever write lyrics for the stage.
Jason Graae was great, but Kerry Conte really stole the show for me.
Overall this was the best MUFTI in a long time. Harnick was in the audience, along with Charles Strouse, and he looked like he was having a swell time. Don't miss it!
I hope they record it. I won't make it to New York to see it and I've always wanted to hear the songs from "Dragons". Someone who saw a workshop of it told me about it almost thirty years ago and I found it fascinationg.

I saw it earlier tonight and had such a great time. Loved hearing some of Harnick's standards along with some lesser-known songs. The cast is excellent. Great start to a new season of Muftis.
