A CHORUS LINE
What a performance! I was truly blown back by this show. I have never seen A Chorus Line live before, so I have absolutely nothing to compare it to besides the movie version (which I haven't seen in quite some time). Its amazing that a show can still grab an audience even though there isn't any elaborate sets or special effects. It was truly an engaging experience when the audience was greeting the show with tremendous applause right when the lights came down. The show is very lively after it opened on Broadway 16 years ago and really captured the audience the entire two hours sans the intermission. According to an older woman in the audience, it was just as good or even better than the original version back in 1979.
The lighting was fantastic and really captured the moods nicely. The orchestrations were wonderful and the orchestra was strong and booming.
Brief summary of the actors:
Michael Beresse (Zach) Not a lot of stage time, though fantastic dancer and seems to be having a lot of fun with the show. The few moments he does have on stage or very nice.
Jessica Lee Goldyn (Val) Very different from what I was expecting! Though she had tremendous energy. Her movements and her dancing were centered around her chest and her ass which was quite funny.
Jason Tam (Paul) I was very skeptical as to how he would interpret the role and was very happy on what he delivered. His monologue was fantastic and got a large applause directly after.
Mara Davi (Maggie) Fantastic voice! Fantastic dancing! Touching performance overall.
Ken Alan (Bobby) Excellent comic timing and the audience really seemed to be enjoying him
Natalie Cortez (Diana) I thought she had an accent in the beginning and then she dropped it further into the show. Either that or just went in and out of it. Fantastic set of pipes and her numbers were all touching and engaging.
Charlotte d'Amboise (Cassie) I heard many mixed things about Charlotte and was fairly surprised on how well she performed. Her voice was nice and belty, her dancing was flawless (I really didn't favor the choreography in Music & The Mirror) though she was fantastic in all of her numbers.
Deidre Goodwin (Sheila) Excellent delivery of her lines. Wonderufl voice! Tremendous presence and I can tell she is having a ball with this show.
James T. Lane (Richie) So much energy and a fantastic dancer.
Jeffrey Schecter (Mike) Loved "I can do that", not as strong vocally as he his dancing wise, though he gave a wonderful performance.
We had two understudies: Mike Cannon (u/s Mark), Bebe (u/s Bebe)who were both fantastic in their roles.
Go see this production! It is completely fantastic and it is something to be very excited about!

Thank you for the review
Consensus is that Charlotte has grown into her role VERY nicely and I am glad to see that refelcted in your comments.
Deidre, Mara and Natalie seem to be the ones to get singled out. James T Lane has a great role to work with. He seems to get positive nods.
I can't wait to get my chance to see this on October 26th in NYC
