A few random ANYTHING GOES questions.

Okay. So I love the show ANYTHING GOES. But I noticed there are so many differences between each cast recording:
1. Why was the song "Take Me Back to Manhatten" and "Let's Misbehave" only in the 1962 off Broadway cast album? Definitely two of my favorite Cole Porter songs. Was it them just trying to incorporate a few more songs of his in the production? (And if anyone was alive then, how was that production compared to the Broadway production?)
2. And this isn't really that big of a deal, but I noticed in the 2011 cast album (and the 1962 recording), when they sing "Anything Goes" it goes, "And though I'm not a great romancer, I know that you're bound to answer when I propose, anything goes"...
Yet on the 1987 recording Patti sings, "And though I'm not a great romancer, I know that I'm bound to answer when you propose, anything goes."
Just seems like a weird switch up to me. One that I notice all the time when I'm singing in my car, haha.
In retrospect, they seem like really insignificant questions, but this show is one that I have multiple recordings of and unlike all the other shows that I have multiple recordings of, the discrepancies between all of them are SO different.
Are there any really awesome articles/books/documentaries about Cole Porter and his musical history?
Thanks, and sorry for the long post!

Essentially since it's a "pre-OKLAHOMA" style light musical comedy it's easy to pick and choose the Porter hits to incorporate.
No idea about the lyric change, it is an odd anomaly! I don't even think that lyric was in the original 1934 version of the song, since it was a lot more pop culture oriented.
As for books and documentaries I can't really help you but theres a lot of fascinating stuff online about his life and work.

No problem! I too have multiple recordings and love the show as well as its history and Porter's.
Do you have the 1988 studio restoration of the original score?

Nowack, I very much appreciate that recording as it gives us a chance to hear the original score as played with Ethel - but I absolutely cannot stand the Reno on the recording. However, the Overture is absolutely thrilling.

I agree Kim Criswell is not up to par (she's almost doing a bad Merman impression or something) and the entire cast for me is fairly mediocre, but I love those original arrangements so much and it's great to hear the score as it originally was presented.
