Posted: 11/4/03 at 9:56amI saw her in Wicked and she was much more nuanced than that. If you want to pick on somebody awful in that show, pick on that steaming pile of a performance done by Norbert "The Long Eared Christmas Donkey" Butz.

I like Norbert!
He's been wonderful in many things.....
It's probably because he's reacting to the cross-eyed, distorted face muggings of the queen of the bombs....

Robinson's story in and of itself, is probably either familiar or not all that fascinating. He appears to be unconflicted.
The play is the turmoil that surrounds him. There's the conflict. He is the quiet center. Robinson would not really need to even be on stage.
The headlines read "Openly Gay Man Made Bishop". What if the headline were to drop the term 'openly' and assume that this is the only gay man elevated to bishop? It could force others out or deeper into the closet.
Then there's the witch hunt factor.
Oh there's the stuff of great drama, but its the situation and not the man.
And Sutton could play his daughter, okay?

Great! The daughter could belt: "Leave my dad ALOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONE!"
Tappa tappa tappa tappa.
Anth, nope, Norbert's wrecks everything from the moment he enters. I almost yelled, "You're not ROGER anymore!" So bad, so awful. The only thing missing was a frickin surfboard.

Personally, I would rather see THE DOLORES HART STORY
First openly straight actress becomes Catholic Nun! And she is still a member of the acadamy, and, I believe, votes on the Oscars!

No longer Sister but Mother Dolores lives in upstate NY in a convent. Now in her sixties she beat cancer a few years ago.
And yes, she still is a member of the Academy.
I met her cousin at a party.

we could have a marathon of shows like that...who's the Inkspot singer (or some such) that was a woman all those years? and they didn't find out until the autopsy? maybe a vehicle for KD LANG?
and hey, ANTHie, where's your new column?

- I thought Butz was floundering in one of the most underwritten roles I've ever seen.
- Wasn't Dolores Hart in an Elvis movie (NOT 'Change of Habit'). That could be the pivital reason she joins the convent: "After I kissed Elvis, I realized that only ONE other man could rock my world even harder - Jesus."
- How old is Bishop Robinson's daughter, anyway?
