Completely disregard that other thread I started. The following was posted on the Aida Community message board by "Adriana Douzos", the show publicist.
************
There are NO plans to close
There is an active list of stage, screen and recording stars interested in the role of AIDA,
many of whom are in discussions with casting, and the producers at this time.

This is getting to be confusing...Is it or isn't it?!?!?! This is what I found on the Aida Community message board tonight below the statement by the "show promotor"
********
I also worked for Buena Vista Theatrical. The show was slated to close June of 2004, no matter what. The Tour is already closed. It closed this past month.
Toni B. did not renew her contract and won't.
This show was never expected to last this long and they are surprised it has. But as they say... All good things come to an end. They should have closed it on an up note with Simone and Adam's last show (June 15th). That was the most amazing show (at least for Simone... Adam was ok).
I am a big fan as I had worked there for almost 3 years and I know what goes on behind the scenes and the secrets that Disney keeps. You would be truly shocked if you knew what actually happens in that company. And no I'm not a disgruntled former employee, I just have morals and work ethics.
So I'm sad to say that the show IS CLOSING Jan. 3, 2004. It is sad and terrible but that's the biz.
And as an extra bonus!!! Mermaid isn't the next show to come to the Palace. As Disney does have another 2 years lease on the Palace the talks are putting a musical version of Tarzan!! hmm.

Fabulous news sweetie.
The world can continue revolving.
After all, what would Mickey Dolenz do?
re: re: re: AIDA Not Closing#4
Posted: 9/17/03 at 9:38pmI saw Mickey and got his autograph! Anyways, Tarzan would be a Disney show that has potential. Some would just be awful.

Posted: 9/17/03 at 10:41pmI am one of those who loved AIDA but it has run for a while. Having able to watch it on Broadway and tour, I am okay if it would close.... Not like I am the one who has that power. (Although, it would be kind-a cool)

I don't think Aida is a good "out of towner" show. I give it much more credit than that. I know there are some who don't enjoy Aida, but there are just as many who find it quite brilliant. I've recommended it to so many people (in and out of NY) who all came away thoroughly entertained, and many returned several times. It's one of those shows people love to hate, and hate to love. Not that I'm talking to you BoxOJon because you did say you liked it, but others here can't get past the fact that not everyone shares their opinion when it comes to whether or not the show is good.
As for saying it's been running a while so it's time to close? I've never understood that line of thinking. There are so many vacant theaters out there (not that the Palace would stay dark, but you know what I mean), so why run ANY show off when people are still enjoying the it and people are still discovering and loving it. To me, that's a lazy thought. "Aw, just close it. It's been around long enough anyway."
